Root canal therapy, or root canal treatment, is a necessary treatment when the pulp or nerve of a tooth is infected/inflamed. Why does this happen? The irritation of the tooth is caused by bacterial invasion or physical injury to the effected tooth.

You may not always notice pain from this instance. However, even without symptoms there can still be infection/irritation present. During this process, an Endodontist (who specializes in this treatment) carefully removes the pulp inside of the tooth and cleans/disinfects.  Symptoms of needing a root canal treatment include:

  • Severe pain while chewing or biting
  • Pimples on the gums
  • A chipped or cracked tooth
  • Lingering sensitivity to hot or cold, even after the sensation has been removed
  • Swollen or tender gums
  • Deep decay or darkening of the gums

If the infection is left untreated, the infection in the tooth can spread to other parts of the body – causing life threatening situations in some cases.

If you have any of the symptoms and need a root canal, call Carroll Dental today at either of our locations and schedule your appointment.
